New Coach Equals New Team in Dallas

After firing their Head Coach Wade Phillips and promoting their offensive coordinator Jason Garrett into the Head Coach position Cowboy’s fans seemed to still be nervous, especially since their next opponent would be the division leading New York Giants. To this surprise of fans across the nation the Cowboys came out looking to be a new energized team playing with the pride that Wade Phillips was unable to find in them. The Cowboys came out with an energy that has not been seen all season, they played with what seemed to be a bit of a chip on their shoulder, which is understandable, after having one of the most disapointing seasons in franchise history.

Fans still seemed to be skeptical of Jason Garrett, due to the game changing play calls he has made in the past that have lead to big losses in the teams history, but he certainly made a statement with sundays victory. The Cowboys playoff hopes are still non-exsistent but hopefully with their Garrett running the show, they can still salvage what little pride they have left as a team.

The team played as a whole this week which seemed to really be the difference maker for them. They got help from the big perfomances of their back-up quarterback Jon Kitna who threw for  327 yards, and  rookie wide reciever Dez Bryant, who showed is athleticism in a very acrobatic grab he made for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Which Coach Will Go First

If their are two people in the NFL who’s jobs are at risk Wade Phillips and Brad Childress are definately them. These two coaches who have more talent on their team than any coach could ever ask for are slowly becoming the most hated coaches in the league. In last weeks game minesota fans verbally chanted to promote firing Childress, and in postgame interviews players openly disgusted their negative feelings towards the coach as well. Dallas fans have been a bit more civil, most likely due to the fact that they have no hope to make the playoffs anymore at this point in the season. Dallas fans are just taking part in a waiting game. Waiting for phillips to be fired, waiting to findout who their new coach will be, and ultimately waiting for next season where hopefully they can turn their luck around.Neither of these coaches seem to have any control over their players. Dallas continues to rack up careless penalties and seem to completely have given up. And the Minnesota players seem to have lost all respect for their coach as they openly express their views in the media all week long.

Still Searching for Answers?

The Dallas Cowboys drop to 1-7, the worst record in the league. Cowboy fans had little hope of a superbowl season after losing their starting quarterback Tony Romo who went down with a broken collar bone. Jerry Jones Cowboys franchise owner and general manager addressed the media and expressed his disapointment in his team. Jones also strongly appologized to the fans stating that their is no excuse for what is happening with the team and that changes will be made. Jones excepted full blame for the situation and stated he will not sleep until he finds a way to overcome this discouraging season. The loss of their starting quarterback was never a focal point of the blame put on the teams record. I think the press conference held by Jones was exactly what needed to happen. It is very apparent that their is some serious problems within the organization and that something must be done. Cowboys fans have proven to be some of the most loyal fans within the league and they definately needed to be filled in on what direction the team will be moving. Jones stated that the team had several back up plans for what would happen if his team started showing signs of not playig well this season, and that already plan A, B and C have all failed but a new plan will be installed.

Mizzou Takes a Bite Out of The Competition

Waves of gold and black rushed the field as the Mizzou Tigers captured victory over the number one ranked Oklahoma Sooners. The Tigers were on a seven game losing streak against the Sooners, but when Gahn McGaffie returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown it was clear that the Tigers meant buisness. The victory puts Mizzou at 7-0 for the first time since 1960, when they finshed their season 11-0 with a No. 5 ranking and beat Navy in the Orange Bowl. After defeating the number one team in the nation Mizzou has climbed into the No. 6 spot in the BCS standings, which determine what teams will play in the national championship game. Mizzou fans know that  beating Oklahoma is nothing compared to winning the championship, but they are definately taking steps in the right direction, especially after several decades of disapointing seasons. Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel knows that if his team is going to earn the respect of the league then games like this are must wins. In a program that has had its fair share of let downs things are certainly looking up for the Mizzou Tiger football program.

Helmet to Helmet Hits Put Players at Risk

In the National Football League (NFL) today players are much faster, and stronger than ever before in history, which results in much more punishing and dangerous hits, especially when these hits contain full speed helmet to helmet contact which is illegal in the league. The NFL has taken steps in attempt to put a stop to this problem by fining players several thousand dollars for breaking these rules, but to multimillion dollar athletes a of five thousand dollars or so is not really getting their attention. Some athletes set money aside for these type of fines in what some have described as a necessary investment fund. These players are brought in to the league sometimes solely based on the fact that they can deliver these powerful bone crushing hits, but something must be done to keep a great powerful hit from becoming a life altering, or career ending injury. With players being as fast and as well conditioned as they are in today’s league maybe the NFL should start looking to expand the dimensions of the field spread the players out more, this would help eliminate so many hits on defenseless receivers.  Another possible solution would be to start suspending players for helmet to helmet hits if they appear to be intentional. Money fines to multimillion dollar athletes are nothing compared the repercussions of a suspension. Not only  would the players miss out on a week of practice and improvement, but they would also have to deal with the fact that they are disappointing their entire team and all of their fans.

Superbowl Favorites Find Themselves 1-3

A team known for its dominance through the 90′s, nick named “Americas Team”, the Dallas Cowboys were expected to be back to their old ways for the 2010-2011 NFL season this year. The Cowboys season ended on a high note last year after a tough lost to the Minnesota Vikings in the playoffs, and were picked by several to be the favorites for the 2010-2011 Superbowl after acquiring a great amount of talent to add to their aresenal of weapons such as the young rookie from Oklahoma State, Dez Bryant. The Cowboys offense was ”Stacked” adding Bryants talent at the wide reciever position to the mix gave the Cowboys an impecable offense with an experienced offensive line, a pro bowl quarterback, and arguably three of the most talented recievers in the game.

To the dismay of fans everywhere anxiously waiting to see the Cowboys explode, and dominate the league, they did just the opposite. The Cowboys opened up the season with an 0-2 record, and fans were in shock and aw as this supposedly dominate team crumbled before them. Dallas went on to pull of a big win in their third game against the Houston Texans, but fell short again to the Tennessee Titans after coming off of their bye week.

Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys owner is one of the most rich, and powerful owners in all of sports, and has made it very clear that he does not like to lose. So how is it possible that a team that has so many weapons and so much talent can fall apart week after week like they have been. I think that it is time to start looking towards the coaches. As a coach in the NFL it is your job to work with what weapons you have to create a great team, Cowboys coach Wade Phillips has a deadly aresnal of weapons but doesnt seem to be able to find the trigger for any of them. Not to mention the play calling from Offensive cordinator Jason Garrett is amatuer status to say the least. On several ocasions the cowboys have had the win in the palm of their hand and lost due to ignorant choices of plays. The Cowboys have lost many last second games because in situations when they have the lead going into the end of a game, instead of running more clock draining running plays, Garret chooses to try the long ball down the field to make himself look like a hero if it works. Well guess what, its not working and the team is falling apart from extremely poor decision making.

Jerry Jones is an incredibly smart man, and has made decisions that have built a sports empire. I think its about time some decisions are made fast before he lets all the money he spent on this talent go to waste.

Fire Department Watches a Mans Home Burn

Gene Cranick, of Obion County lost his home after forgetting to pay a $75 bill to the South Fulton fire department. Officials say that the rules are in place for a reason and it is not fair that someone who is not paying their bill should be able to receive the same benefits as their neighbors who are paying. Cranick said that he has paid the bill in the past and he simply just forgot, he states “Im not a free loader, I’ve worked all my life for everything I’ve got.” He also claims that he knows that these fees have been waved for other people in the area before and does not understand why they could not be waved in his case. Cranick said he would have paid the $75, and his neighbor even offered to pay $500, or $5000 dollars to the fire department, he could not remember exactly what it was, but the fire department through orders still refused to put out the fire. In my opinion the rule is a great way to get people to pay their bills in theory, but as human beings do we not have some kind of moral or ethical principles to help out another man regardless of the situation when is home is burning down. Not only is this the place where this man lives but it is a place that contains all of his possessions, and nostalgic belongings. I do believe the man should face some sort of punishment for not paying the bill and still receiving the benefits that someone who had paid it would receive such as a fine or something along those lines, but to let a man’s house burn to the ground just seems downright inhumane. As humans we all make mistakes, I think it is only fair to think about how we would feel if the shoe was on the other foot and our home was let burn because of a simple forgetful mistake.
